Ryan here.

I joined Export Japan at the beginning of November and have been having a blast so far. I’m in the Creative Department where I have joined the SNS team as a video editor and videographer.

こんにちは！ライアンです！

11月初めにエクスポートジャパンに入社し、これまでとても楽しく過ごしています。クリエイティブ部門に所属し、SNSチームの一員として動画編集者とビデオグラファーを務めています。

経歴

Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. I have been to Japan several times. I’ve lived in Tokyo, Oita, Fukuoka and travelled around a few other prefectures of Japan. I had done a lot of content creation work, including online streaming, YouTube channel production which was all self-taught during covid. Trying to keep busy while I was living in the not-very-big town of Nakatsu. (famous for its Karage)

I’ve worked in radio as a host, and helped in the production of a TV series, I’ve hosted and created podcasts, I’ve run my own 12-hour online charity stream – which I’m super proud of. I studied at TAFE (Technical and Further Education which is unique to Australia) as well as studying Japanese and Mandarin languages at University.

オーストラリアのメルボルンで生まれ育ちました。日本には何度か訪れており、東京、大分、福岡に住んだ経験があります。その他にも日本のいくつかの県を旅しました。コロナ禍の時期に独学で学んだオンライン配信やYouTubeチャンネル制作など、多くのコンテンツ制作に携わってきました。中津という（からあげで有名な）それほど大きくない町に住んでいた頃、忙しく過ごすために取り組んでいたことです。

ラジオ番組の司会を務め、テレビシリーズの制作にも携わりました。ポッドキャストの司会と制作も手がけ、12時間に及ぶオンラインチャリティー配信を自ら運営しました——これは本当に誇りに思っています。TAFE（オーストラリア特有の職業訓練校）で学び、大学では日本語と中国語を専攻しました。

好きな言葉や好きな事

“Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly” – G.K. Chesterton.
I really appreciate this quote, it might seem negative at first but there is really something human about it.
To explain it more clearly, the idea of doing something, a task, a chore, self-care. These can seem like impossible tasks if you try to do all of them perfectly all the time.
Instead of trying to do too much, just focus on quick, easy actions. Think a short run, a walk around town, 10 minutes at the gym, three minutes of studying a language or one minute of yoga. These small steps will still make a difference for your body, mind, and overall goals. Action over inaction.

I love to try to talk Japanese, but I’m much better at talking in English. I love to go out and travel or to meet new people but I also love to stay at home with my family.

この言葉には深く共感しています。一見否定的に見えるかもしれないが、そこには人間らしさが確かに宿っています。より明確に説明すると、何かを成し遂げること、タスクや雑用、セルフケアといった行為、これらを常に完璧にこなそうとすれば、不可能に思えるかもしれません。
無理に多くをこなそうとする代わりに、手軽で簡単な行動に集中してみるといいです。短いランニング、街の散歩、10分のジムワーク、3分の語学学習、1分のヨガなど。こうした小さな一歩が、あなたの身体や心、そして目標達成に確実に変化をもたらします。何もしないより、行動を起こすことです。

日本語で話そうと努力するのが好きですが、英語で話す方がずっと得意です。外出や旅行、新しい人との出会いが大好きですが、家族と家で過ごすのも大好きです。

入社後1か月振返って

In my short time at Export Japan, I’ve travelled to Miyajima to record footage, I’ve filmed boat racing, and recorded some podcast work, I’ve had late nights working and early mornings too. I have really enjoyed it and look forward to what is in store for me and what I can learn and do with Export Japan.

エクスポート・ジャパンでの短い期間で、宮島に映像撮影に行ったり、ボートレースを撮影したり、ポッドキャストの収録もしました。夜遅くまで働く日もあれば、早朝からの仕事もありました。本当に楽しんでいますし、これからエクスポート・ジャパンでどんな経験ができ、何を学べるのか楽しみにしています。
