A walk in Fushimi, Kyoto -インターンが綴る京都伏見の散歩

こんにちは、日に日に暑くなってきていて、毎日在宅勤務に切り替えたいと願っている福島です。

さて、7月に入り大阪本社にはフランス人の学生インターンMilena（ミレナ）が加入しました。
過去に受け入れてきたインターンの中で最年少の19歳です！（若い！）

エンジニアのフランソワと同郷のブルゴーニュからやってきました。そして、女子ということで、インターン受け入れ中何かあってはいけないので、福島宅でホームステイをさせています。

それでは、ミレナに京都伏見にいった際の様子を、英語でつづってもらいましたので、是非お読みください。（ざっくりした日本語訳も追加しておきます。）

Hey, Hello, it’s the new intern, Miléna!

So last Sunday I went to Fushimi, “one of the eleven wards in the city of Kyoto”, with Fukushima-san, her family and her friends. It was really hot even though there wasn’t so much sun, but I guess I can’t ask for anything else when Japan and summer are put together.

こんにちは、新しいインターンのミレナです！
先週、京都市の11区の1つ伏見に福島さん家族と福島さんのお友だちと行ってきました。太陽はでていないのに、すごく暑い日でした。でも、日本の夏だから当たり前かな。

Fushimi is a really old-looking place, traditional and all. Apparently, it’s famous for its alcohol but I don’t drink so I couldn’t taste anything. However, I ate in a small shop these things probably called dango and it was really good and really sticky.

伏見は伝統的なほんとに古い町並みで、お酒で有名な街のようです。でも、私はお酒を飲まないので、何も味見したりすることができませんでした。そのかわりに、小さなお店でたぶん団子と呼ばれるものを食べました。団子はとても美味しくて、ほんとにもちもちしてました。

The commercial street is sheltered with a glass roof and the decorated banners really give it a festive vibe. There are many shops and I think it’s a great place to search for souvenirs.

Once the grown-up finally had a taste of the local beer, we visited a little museum with a lot of kappa statues and old commercials. There was also a water source where people were waiting with empty bottles, because this water is said to be good for the body. I wonder how it tasted…

商店街はガラスの屋根で覆われていて、看板などがあるので夏祭りみたいな雰囲気がしました。商店街はたくさんのお店があったので、お土産を探すのにいい場所だと思います。

そして、私たちは河童の置物やCMなどが流れている小さなミュージアムによって、そこで福島さんたち大人は地ビールを味わってました。そこには水をいれる場所もあり、空のボトルに水をいれている人たちがいました。その水は身体にいいようだと聞きましたが、どんな味がするんだろう。

After that we went to Teradaya inn. It’s famous because someone important was battled here : Sakamoto Ryoma. He was really modern and he had a great influence on the movement to overthrow a certain shogunate.

その後に、寺田屋という旅館にいきました。寺田屋はある有名な人が争った場所として有名なんだそうです。その有名な人というのは坂本龍馬という人です。彼は当時とても先進的な考えを持ち、当時の日本の改革に大変な影響を及ぼしたそうです。

But one night he got caught unprepared, with a low number of bodyguards, and so he almost got killed. In the inn, a man explained some things about the place, but all I could do was appreciate the tone of his voice since I didn’t understand much. I should really focus more on my Japanese… Anyway, luckily, there was a summary in English in their pamphlet so I understood the big idea and Fukushima-san was also here to explain some details.

しかし、ある晩、少ない護衛とともにいた際に不意打ちにあい、暗殺されそうになったという説明を寺田屋のガイドさんが説明してくれました。でも、私は日本語がよくわからないのでガイドさんの声のトーンでしかわかりませんでした。もっと日本語を勉強していればよかったなぁ・・・でも、パンフレットに英語の説明があったのと、福島さんが説明をしてくれたのでだいたいわかりました。

All in all, this visit was a good chance to see a really old and traditional Japanese house, so it was worth it !

After that we started to look for a place to eat. It’s not always easy to see which building is a restaurant and which is not, since you can rarely see what’s inside from the street.

寺田屋を訪問したことで昔の伝統的な家屋を見ることができたので、訪れる価値はあったと思います！

そして、寺田屋の後に食べるところをさがしました。私にとっては、外側からお店の中が見えないので、どの建物がレストランなのかどうか見極めるのは結構むずかしいです。

We finally asked someone and found a big restaurant specialised in Kyoto’s traditional  food. I know that in Japan you eat a lot of small dishes but here there were just too much ! The table was packed with food ! I had no idea what most of the dishes were but, hey, it was not bad ! Very different from what I’m used to though.

私たちはある人に聞いて、京都の伝統的な食べ物を提供している大きなレストランを教えてもらいました。日本では小さな器にたくさんの種類のおかずを盛ってだされるのを知っていたけど、写真をみたらわかるようにほんとに多すぎ！テーブルは食べ物だらけになっちゃった。私はほとんど何が何なのかわからなかったけど、どれも悪くありませんでした。もちろん、私が慣れ親しんでいるものとはぜんぜん違うけど。

After that, we went back to the station, walking through the commercial street. We stopped to buy an ice cream and… That fake food will always impress me ! We don’t have that at all in France nor in any country I visited previously so it’s always so surprising ! I asked my friends and they really thought that it was real food !

昼食をとった後、商店街を通って駅に向かいました。途中でアイスクリームを買ったのだけど、そこにあったフェイクフード（※食品サンプル）にはいつもびっくり！フランスでは食品サンプルは見たことないし、そもそも今までにいったどこの国でも見たことがありません。だから、ものすごくびっくり！私の友だちにも聞いてみましたが、食品サンプルを本物だと思ったみたいです。

I parted here with Fukushima-san and her friends because they went to Fushimi Inari Shrine, that I already visited last year (it’s really a beautiful place, and they sell a bunch of cute things), I was really tired with all this heat and food. So I went back home and here is the end of my story.

その後、福島さんは伏見稲荷神社にいくということだったので、私は福島さんとは別行動で帰宅することにしました。昨年伏見稲荷神社に行ったこともあるし、暑さと食べすぎでへとへと。だから、家に帰ることにしました。（伏見稲荷神社はすごく綺麗で、その周辺にはかわいいものがいっぱい売られてましたよ。）

ということで、伏見でのお話は以上になります。
